Ovex Family Pack Tablets can be used for adults and children for threadworm treatment. It is recommended that the treatment should be taken by the entire family at the same time.

Why do I need this medicine?

Mebendazole is used to treat parasitic infections and worm infections such as those caused by threadworms, whipworms, roundworms and hookworms.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Mebendazole exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take Mebendazole at regular intervals as instructed. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take it even when you feel better. You must complete the entire course unless otherwise directed. If you do not complete the course, the infection may not clear completely.

Depending on the type of infection, you may need to take Mebendazole for any length of time, ranging from 1 to 20 days. Follow your doctor's instructions.

You may take Mebendazole with or without food.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

If you are taking Mebendazole for a long period of time, such as for 20 days, you may need to have regular blood tests to monitor your condition and check your response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have blood tests.

If you are taking Mebendazole only as a single dose, you will not need to have blood tests.

Some worm infections can be easily passed from one person to another. In some cases, family members may also need to be treated. Practise good hygiene to reduce the chances of getting infected again. Wash your hands before eating and after using the toilet.

What side effects could I experience?

Side effects with Mebendazole are generally not common and may include diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and headache. These side effects are more likely if you are taking Mebendazole for a long period. If you are taking Mebendazole only as a single dose, these side effects are usually not likely to happen.

Mebendazole may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Alert your doctor if any of the following symptoms are severe or refuse to go away: rash, sore throat and unusual tiredness.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

Remember to take your medicine regularly. Mebendazole must be taken exactly as directed for it to be effective. If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have liver disease.

Do not take Mebendazole if you are pregnant. Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or if you plan to become pregnant during the course of therapy.

Do not give Mebendazole to children unless you have checked with the doctor or pharmacist.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Alert your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines:

- Epilepsy medicines such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbitone
- A gastric medicine called cimetidine

Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any restrictions on the type of food I can take?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
